Near the end of 2010, I found myself sick and confused. My eyesight was deteriorating, I had abdominal pain so bad it hurt to stand up, and was having to run to the bathroom about 8 times per day. I had no idea what was wrong with me, I just knew it was serious. After many weeks and many doctors, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. My diagnosis was shocking and terrifying, since I had no idea what Crohn's was. My whole life was now different. I was put on serious medication and found that my body could no longer tolerate most of the healthy foods I had been eating, such as leafy greens. So I hired a nutritionist to help me out, and she introduced me to Shakeology. I immediately fell in love. At a time when everything I ate was making me sick, it was the one thing that actually made me feel GOOD, and was filled with all of the nutrients I needed!
A few years later, still happily drinking my Shakeology every day and in remission, I once again found myself trying to lose weight. I tended to work really hard and get in great shape, then figure I could start binge eating on ice cream and cheeseburgers, and gain it all back. Eating healthy & working out was purely a means to an end for me. I didn't enjoy either one, so as soon as I reached my goal, I would stop. Then I would repeat this weight gain & loss cycle several times per year. In January 2014, I found myself about 20 lbs heavier than I wanted to be, a result of my overzealous holiday baking. It was freezing cold outside and dark by 4:30pm, so I had ZERO desire to go to the gym. I started researching at home strength training programs and found one being sold by Beachbody. It wasn't until that moment that I realized that the company that sent me my Shakeology every month also sold fitness programs! Obviously, I was excited since Shakeology had already worked wonders for me, so I ordered without hesitation. I fell in love with the program and the convenience of working out at home, and lost 2 inches off my waist in FIVE WEEKS!! I was SO excited! It really lighted a fire in me to immerse myself in health & fitness and take it to the next level.
Although I loved the workout program, I wasn't a huge fan of the meal plan that came with it because it recommended eating salads, which I couldn't eat with my Crohn's. I knew that exercise could only get me so far and that to break through my plateau & truly get healthy, I needed to focus on what I was eating. So when Beachbody launched their groundbreaking portion control meal plan, I jumped in! It totally CHANGED THE GAME for me. It taught me about portion control, eliminating fake, processed & sugary foods, and introducing whole, real foods. It's flexible enough to work long term because it is not restrictive, and I could choose foods that worked for ME. It provided a complete lifestyle change for me. I lost another 1.75" off my waist in 21 days, reached my goal body, and most importantly, have maintained it years later! I have never felt better about myself, both physically and mentally. Over the years, my confidence has soared, and somewhere along the way I began to truly love exercising and eating healthy. Sharing my journey with others & helping other people achieve the same success I have seen has provided me with unlimited motivation to keep going! I continue to do new programs & learn more about nutrition to challenge myself, grow mentally and keep it fun!
I was so excited about my internal and external transformation, that I decided to become a coach and help others do what I did. My life has changed completely since becoming a coach. I have found so much passion and purpose! I have a successful career in corporate finance that I enjoy, but coaching gives me a sense of fulfillment that comes from truly HELPING people and being able to see that on a daily basis. I see my clients transforming before my eyes, from someone who is miserable and unhappy, to someone who exudes confidence and happiness. I believe everyone deserves to feel that way!
My hope is that something in my story inspires you to become YOUR best self ~ Dawn :)
